In some scenarios, it may be necessary to preconfigure a CoolPlug for a CooLinkHub that is already installed and commissioned at a customer site, while performing the configuration remotely from your office.
Typical use cases include:
- Replacing a malfunctioning CoolPlug with a new unit.
- Adding a CoolPlug to a newly installed indoor unit.
The procedure described below allows you to preconfigure the new CoolPlug in advance, eliminating the need to perform the pairing process on-site. Once the preconfigured CoolPlug is installed at the customer location, it will already be paired with the existing CooLinkHub, enabling a faster and simpler installation process.
Prerequisites for manually pairing a CoolPlug to a CoolLinkHub
Manually pairing a wireless CoolPlug to a CoolLinkHub requires the following prerequisites to be met:
- USB Mini-B cable to connect the CoolPlug to the computer
- A computer with CoolAutomation’s ToolBox App installed to be able to connect to the wireless CoolPlug via the terminal
- One of the following:
- A CoolPlug, which is already paired to the CoolHub you want to pair the new CoolPlug to
- The CoolLinkHub we want to pair the new wireless CoolPlug to, either accessible online or connected to the computer
- The CoolPlug needs to be configured
Step 1 – Read WPAN Parameters
- Open CoolAutomation’s ToolBox App, and connect to either of the devices described below.
- From the terminal tab, execute the following command on the existing device:
- When reading the parameters from an already paired CoolPlug, connect the paired CoolPlug to the computer and execute the following command :
28:3B:96:C1:04:89> plug L5.001 wpan
- When reading the parameters from the CoolLinkHub you want to pair the CoolPlug to, either connect to the CooLinkHub using the CoolAutomation's ToolBox via the network or a direct connection to the CooLinkHub connected to your computer
28:3B:96:C1:04:89>wpan
The output from the wpan command will be as follows:
Coord_EA : 283B96C104890000 SA : 0xF204 PAN ID : 0xCA4D Channel : 25(25) PA/LNA : on Security : on OK
Step 2 – Program the New CoolPlug
- Connect to the new wireless CoolPlug using CoolAutomation’s ToolBox App, and execute the following commands (one after the other): An "OK" response should be received before continuing to the next command:
wpan EA234 <CooLinkHub last 6 chars ofSN >
wpan pan <PAN ID>
wpan ch <Channel>
wpan security <1 0r 0> (1 = On, 0=Off)
For the output example above, the commands will look like the following:
28:3B:96:C1:04:89>wpan EA234 C10489 OK 28:3B:96:C1:04:89>wpan pan CA4D OK 28:3B:96:C1:04:89>wpan ch 25 OK 28:3B:96:C1:04:89>wpan security 1 OK
Step 3: Verification
Once the pairing configuration is completed, verify that the new configuration resembles the configuration set in the CooLinkHub or the CoolPlug you used to retrieve the configuration in step 1.
